Vegan Hotels in Rome: 5 Luxury Stays, Honestly Ranked

Vegan hotels in Rome - the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona

The honest answer on vegan hotels in Rome is that the city has no fully vegan luxury hotel. It does have something Venice and Paris do not: a luxury hotel with an entirely vegetarian and vegan restaurant on its roof. That hotel is the Raphaël, behind Piazza Navona. Three more luxury hotels have vegetarian menus on record, and one serves a menu that is about half plant-based.

Disclosure: Velvet Verde may earn a commission from some links on this site, at no extra cost to you. No hotel paid to appear in this guide, and none has seen it before publication.

Velvet Verde’s pick: Hotel Raphaël. Its rooftop restaurant, Mater Terrae, serves an entirely vegetarian and vegan menu, and the MICHELIN Guide calls it the only vegetarian restaurant in its Rome selection. For a vegetarian tasting menu in a smaller, more private hotel, choose Hotel Vilòn. At any other five-star hotel in Rome, arrange a vegan menu in writing before you arrive.

How we researched this. We spent three days in Rome in July 2026 and ate vegetarian the whole time, but we stayed in an apartment near the Trevi Fountain, not in these hotels. So this is a researched guide, not a set of reviews. Every statement about a menu comes from the hotel’s own website, the MICHELIN Guide, Gambero Rosso or Rome’s official tourism site, checked on 20 October 2026. Where a hotel publishes nothing about vegan dining, we say so plainly.

For what we actually did and ate, see our Rome 3 day itinerary.

Vegan Hotels in Rome at a Glance

The short answer: there are no fully vegan hotels in Rome at the luxury level. The best choice for vegan and vegetarian travelers is Hotel Raphaël near Piazza Navona, a 50-room Relais & Châteaux hotel whose rooftop restaurant, Mater Terrae, is entirely vegetarian and vegan. Hotel Vilòn is second for its all-vegetarian Pachamama tasting menu. The Hassler and Hotel de Russie publish vegetarian menus, and Six Senses Rome serves a menu that is about half plant-based.

What Counts as a Vegan Hotel?

A vegan hotel serves no animal products anywhere on the property, from breakfast to the minibar. A vegan-friendly hotel runs a mixed kitchen but publishes plant-based menus you can order from. A by-request hotel will usually cook vegan if you ask in advance, but puts nothing in writing. Among luxury vegan hotels in Rome, there are none of the first kind. The Raphaël comes closest, because its restaurant serves no meat or fish at all.

Rome is an easier city for vegetarians than for vegans. Classic Roman dishes like cacio e pepe and carciofi alla romana are vegetarian but built on cheese, butter or both. A vegan guest should ask about dairy and egg in every dish, even on a vegetarian menu.

The 5 Best Vegan Hotels in Rome for Luxury Travelers, Ranked

1. Hotel Raphaël - the Only One With an All-Vegetarian Restaurant

Hotel Raphaël is the clear first choice among vegan hotels in Rome. It is a hotel of 50 rooms, 20 of them suites, known for its leafy façade, on Largo Febo, a few steps from Piazza Navona. It has belonged to Relais & Châteaux since 2010 and calls itself the Bio Hotel Raphaël, with an organic Mediterranean breakfast.

Its rooftop restaurant, Mater Terrae, is what sets it apart. The MICHELIN Guide describes it as the only vegetarian restaurant in its Rome selection and says resident chef Sumon Kan offers vegan versions of many dishes. Gambero Rosso describes the menu as entirely vegetarian and vegan, built on organic and biodynamic ingredients. The hotel says Pietro Leemann, founder of Joia in Milan, has worked with the restaurant since 2014. In fine weather, dinner moves onto a terrace above the rooftops.

That makes the Raphaël the one hotel in this guide where a vegan guest can order dinner without a single negotiation. Breakfast is less clear. The hotel’s breakfast page stresses plant proteins, fruit and vegetables but does not use the word vegan, so ask for a vegan breakfast when you book.

Best for: vegan and vegetarian travelers who want a complete plant-based dinner upstairs every night, a short walk from the historic centre.

2. Hotel Vilòn - an All-Vegetarian Tasting Menu in a Private Palazzo

Hotel Vilòn is the second pick. It has 18 rooms in a 16th-century building attached to Palazzo Borghese, on Via dell’Arancio in the Campo Marzio district. The MICHELIN Guide listed it with two MICHELIN Keys in October 2024.

Its restaurant, Adelaide, is led by chef Gabriele Muro and runs a mixed menu of Roman classics and seafood. Alongside it, the MICHELIN Guide lists a tasting menu called “Pachamama, Mother Earth” that is 100% vegetarian. Gambero Rosso priced it at 120 euros in January 2025.

Neither source calls the Pachamama menu vegan. Vegetarians can book it as it stands. Vegans should ask the kitchen in writing whether it can be made without dairy and egg.

Best for: vegetarians who want a small, quiet hotel and one serious vegetarian tasting dinner in it.

3. Hassler Roma - a Starred Vegetarian Menu Above the Spanish Steps

The Hassler sits at the top of the Spanish Steps, on Piazza Trinità dei Monti. It has 82 rooms and one MICHELIN Key.

Its sixth-floor restaurant, Imàgo, holds one MICHELIN star in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Italia under chef Andrea Antonini, with a panoramic view across the city. Rome’s official tourism site, Turismo Roma, lists a vegetarian menu at Imàgo. The MICHELIN Guide does not mention one, and neither source mentions a vegan menu.

Treat the Hassler as a strong choice for a vegetarian and a by-request hotel for a vegan. Confirm the vegetarian menu when you reserve the table, and ask what the kitchen can do without dairy.

Best for: vegetarian travelers who want one starred dinner with one of the best views in Rome, without leaving the hotel.

4. Six Senses Rome - Half the Menu Is Plant-Based

Six Senses Rome opened in March 2023 in Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, a 15th-century palazzo on Piazza San Marcello, just off Via del Corso. It has 96 rooms and suites and one MICHELIN Key.

Its all-day restaurant, Bivium, serves a modern Italian menu that the MICHELIN Guide describes as half plant-based and locally sourced. There is no vegetarian tasting menu here. The appeal is easier than that: breakfast, lunch and a late snack where plant-based dishes are a normal part of the menu, not a special request.

Best for: travelers who want relaxed plant-based meals every day and will book their big dinners elsewhere.

5. Hotel de Russie - a Vegetarian Menu in the Garden

Hotel de Russie, a Rocco Forte hotel, sits on Via del Babuino between Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps, and is known for its terraced gardens. Its restaurant, Le Jardin de Russie, serves Mediterranean food under chef Alessandro Buffolino, with Fulvio Pierangelini supervising the kitchen.

Turismo Roma lists a children’s and vegetarian menu at Le Jardin de Russie. That is a useful sign, but it is a lighter commitment than the hotels above, and nothing mentions vegan dishes. Ask for a vegan menu at booking.

Best for: travelers who want a classic grand hotel with a garden and are happy to plan plant-based meals with the concierge.

How to Get a Vegan Meal at Any Luxury Hotel in Rome

Only one of the five vegan hotels in Rome on this list has a restaurant that is plant-based by default. At the other four, asking early is what turns a vegetarian menu into a vegan one.

  1. Write before you book. Ask the reservations team whether the kitchen can serve a fully vegan dinner and breakfast, and ask for a sample menu.
  2. Use the right words. Say vegan or vegetarian and list what you do not eat. In Italian, vegano and vegetariano are understood everywhere.
  3. Name the hidden ingredients. Ask about pecorino and butter in pasta, egg in fresh pasta, and anchovy in sauces and dressings.
  4. Confirm again 48 hours ahead and once more at check-in.
  5. Keep one outside table booked for each night, so a weak hotel answer does not cost you a dinner.

A message you can adapt:

We are staying from [dates] and eat a fully vegan diet: no meat, fish, dairy, eggs or honey. Could the kitchen prepare a vegan dinner on [date] and a vegan breakfast each morning? A sample menu would help us decide. Thank you.
