Editorial Standards

Velvet Verde is an independent luxury plant-forward travel publication. This page sets out how we research, write, fund and correct what we publish. Last updated: October 2026.

Independence

Our recommendations are not for sale. No hotel, restaurant, cruise line or tourism board can pay to be included in a guide or to change what we say about it.

Affiliate links and how we earn

Some links on Velvet Verde are affiliate links. If you book through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. A link never decides what we recommend. Every article carries a disclosure near the top, in line with Canadian Competition Bureau and US FTC guidance. Read our affiliate disclosure.

Sponsored content

When we publish content created in partnership with a brand, it is labelled as sponsored at the top of the piece and has to meet the standards on this page.

First-hand and researched coverage

We publish two kinds of guides and we tell you which one you are reading. First-hand pieces come from trips the editor has taken, such as Rome, Venice and seven nights on Ruby Princess in Alaska, and say so in the opening lines.

Researched guides are built from primary sources: the hotel or restaurant itself, the MICHELIN Guide, official tourism bodies and published menus. We do not present a researched guide as a personal visit.

Sources and citations

Statistics, trend claims and quotes are attributed to a named source. Where a fact comes from a venue or an official body, we say which one.

Updates and corrections

Travel details change. Prices, menus, opening hours and booking rules can move after we publish, so confirm them with the venue before you book. We update an article when we learn something has changed, and each article shows the date it was last updated.

If you spot an error, email [email protected]. We will check it and correct the article.

Who is responsible
